The story of New Balance begins in Boston in 1906 thanks to William J. Riley, an English shoemaker who immigrated to Massachusetts, immediately dedicated to a project to study and manufacture specific insoles and footwear for people with foot problems. The brand, now fourth in the world in the production of sneakers for athletes and lifestyle, known and represented all over the world, was already born with great attention to health and quality. The first running shoe dates back to 1938 and it was followed by the production of specifically shaped models for running, baseball, basketball, tennis and boxing. After several vicissitudes of succession in ownership and management, 1961 becomes decisive for the manufacturer: it is the year of the launch on the market of the "Trackster", the first running shoe with the midsole raised under the heel and produced in six different plant widths. A model that marks history, now on display at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Its success was extraordinary right from the start. The small company that at the end of the sixties produced thirty pairs of shoes a day with six workers employed, soon started the distribution worldwide, starting from Denmark, then in Switzerland up to Japan. In 1976 Runner's World elects the M320 model as the best running shoe in the world. New Balance thus officially enters among the leading companies in world running. Today the company, which celebrated its first centenary in 2006, holds the record of 4th in the world and 2nd in the USA. It operates in a socially responsible manner and remains faithful to its usual values: integrity, teamwork, total consumer satisfaction and social responsibility.
